How is the content categorized?

Each piece of content provided by PHC Global, including Alerts, Analysis, and Guidance, is labeled with a category to help users quickly find the information most important to them. Source Confidence: A Credibility Assessment At PHC Global, our object is to synthesize diverse health data into clear and concise metrics. We analyze 365,000 data points daily. These data points come from many different sources and feature distinct measurements and geographies. Our tiered confidence grading system scrutinizes each piece of data to analyze the who, what, and where of each data source. We break these down into our three major elements of confidence: Credibility Evaluates the reliability of the source data and its collection methods. Who is providing the data? How much do we trust this source and its methods? We only share and utilize data that meets our strict standards. Credibility is used in Respiratory Illness, COVID-19, RSV, Influenza data confidence assessments and Alerts Confidence Assessments. Suitability Assesses how well the provided metrics address the risk in question. This involves determining the directness and appropriateness of the data, and may include the use of proxy data when direct data is unavailable. Suitability is used in Respiratory illness, COVID-19, RSV, and Influenza data confidence assessments. Representativeness Measures how well the data represents the demographic and geographic characteristics of a location, ensuring our insights are accurate and tailored to the areas and communities impacted. Representativeness is used in Respiratory illness, COVID-19, RSV, and Influenza data confidence assessments. The result is a five-tiered data system where each level reflects our confidence in the three above elements for the location and data type being viewed: Very high confidence High confidence Acceptable (or moderate) confidence Low confidence Very low confidence The source is trusted, methods are sound, and the population being measured is very representative of the population at this location. Respiratory Illness: A Look at Healthcare and Disease Ecosystem Unprocessed data can be confusing and counterintuitive due to multiple and conflicting signals related to disease activity. Additionally,changes in the health ecosystem may affect data in unforeseen ways. For example, changes in the level of testing will affect reported case numbers independent of the actual number of sick people. PHC Global looks at the healthcare and disease ecosystem and distills this information into concise and consistent metrics. The risk metric provided by PHC Global is a tiered grading system that shows: The risk presented from all viral respiratory agents, often referred to as influenza-like illnesses (ILI) The direction that risk is heading More detailed risk assessments are provided for a growing list of specific viruses in this category. This specificity enables you to target specific interventions and develop expectations based on the exact viruses currently circulating. The below risk level categories provide guidance on specific risks and are based on disease-location combination. Low Risk Moderate Risk High Risk Severe Risk Trend Indicators Activity is low or entirely absent, frequently referred to as ‘baseline level.’ Activity is elevated but within expected ranges based on historical data. Businesses may begin to see impacts due to absenteeism or supply disruption, but these impacts are expected to be minimal. Activity is near peak seasonal levels. Although activity is within the expected historical range, levels of disease transmission in the area are approaching or surpassing the highest levels expected each year. Business disruption is expected, on par with the typical level of disruption observed during previous surges of activity. Activity has surpassed expected norms. At these levels, absenteeism from this particular risk is expected to surpass what would typically be observed even during previous season peaks. More severe disruptions to local business is expected. Arrows within each category indicate the direction the trend is heading. The signal may be following a trend that is decreasing, increasing, or plateauing.
